Thanks for the newsletter. I searched my
mail and found the newsletter from July, which I had
neglected to read. Keep up the good work. I am amazed at
the parallels I read about in the newsletter.
Like many classmates, I have been married for
37 years. My wife and I have 2 children, aged 28 and 32, no
grand kids.
We are both retired and enjoy traveling,
visiting Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Ireland in the last few
years. We also get together with college friends each year,
(including classmate Roger Beatty) in different locations
around Ohio and even further, such as Colorado.
I stay busy volunteering with a service club
(Lions) and local chapter of the surveyor's society (I was a
surveyor for 32 years, and am still licensed in Ohio and
West Virginia).
I spend some time taking care of a 50-acre
farm in Kentucky, which has been in my family for several
generations, and enjoy keeping a vegetable garden in my back
yard, which gives me food and great exercise! Tom

Thanks for the update! I hope all is well with
everyone from the Class of 1967. I love hearing from Ron Ohsner. I
hope he is doing well. I have become a grandma for the 4th time.
My son, Hank and his wife Stephanie had a beautiful baby girl on
June 13, 2009 named Eve. I now have 2 granddaughters and 2
grandsons but I want MORE!!!!! This is truly the way to have kids.
The oldest will be 16 next week and then they are 9,3 and 3 weeks
today. I hope you all have a wonderful 4th. I would love to come
to one of the get togethers but it would have to be on a Friday or
let me know a little sooner so that I can take the time off work. I
really can't wait to retire but that will be a few years from now.
Hi to Linda Hammock, Marsha Meyers, Dick McBride, Rick Sellers, John
Durst and all of the others I saw at the 40th. Can't wait to see
you all again. Thanks again, Donn, for putting this together!

Thanks for taking time to send the news letter. For my blog:
Sheri Smith - I'm a Realtor in Mansfield, Ohio, I've been married
for 37 years to a high school teacher and have 3 children. I
graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in education and
met my husband-to-be while standing in line during the graduation
ceremony. So, since we were lined up alphabetically, I met Tom
Smith and never had to change my last name! We love to travel all
over the United States and have had the opportunity to do some
foreign travel as well. We look forward to retiring soon, if the
economy cooperates.

Thank you so much for the
Newsletter/update. It is fascinating to read the on-goings of our
class. Everyone is so active and vibrant that it is encouraging.
My husband and I are very busy with work, a class of 18-29 year olds
at our church, and entertaining friends at home. We’d love to share
a meal if you are ever in Florida. Thanks again, Janet Jones Vasquez

6/24/2009 Dick McBride Happy Hour |
Classmates
Since the 40th reunion Marsha Myers and I have organized
happy hours about three times a year so that we can all connect on a
much more regular basis. There have been as few as three people and
as many as fifteen. No matter the numbers they have always been a
good time. Until now we have communicated the events via email which
we will continue to do, but now thanks to Donn we have this
News section of the
website to get the word out. The venues have varied but we have
tried to get together at The Varsity Club in the summer. It’s time
again and we have scheduled the next happy hour for Thursday July 16th
at 6:00 on the patio at the Varsity Club. So please put it on your calendar and spread the word. Any
questions please contact me at the email address below:
See you at the VC.

6/18/2009 Glenna Major New address |
Hi Donn,
Yes, I moved to 56 Glenmont to a very different type of house than
I had for 33 years. It's kind of my "bucket list" house, nothing fancy,
but a bit more room and with a 2nd story. I thought that I'd better do
it before I'm too decrepit to enjoy it. In any event, my phone number,
e-mail address, etc. have not changed, just my street address and I'm
still in Clintonville, as you can tell. Thank you for keeping in touch
with all of us, and enabling us to keep tabs on our old friends. |

4/30/2009 Norris VanNoy Scholarship |
We have a new winner of the
Norris VanNoy Scholarship – Laura Payne. She happens to be the
daughter of Susan Hutcheson from our class! We have had 3 students
of former classmates win this scholarship: 2000 Sarah Ravely
(daughter of Marsha Britton), 2002 Johnny DeRing (son of Kathy
Bahorek, and now Laura Payne (daughter of Susan Hutcheson). Please
change the dollar amount to $500.00. We have now given over
$3,000.00 in scholarship money to Whetstone seniors.

Thanks for doing a news letter for our class. For my
update:
Hi, I'm Sheri Smith - I met my future husband, Tom Smith, while standing
in line alphabetically from Ohio State University in 1971 and married
him actually one year later. We have been married for almost 37 years
and have 3 children. We moved to the Mansfield, Ohio area where I'm a
Realtor with Coldwell Banker and my husband is a physics & chemistry
teacher at Lexington High School. We love traveling and have
opportunities to see quite a bit of the world. We are now focusing more
on the USA. Life is good especially with the thought of retirement in
the not too distant future. |

4/14/2009 Jim Corbett |
I was a new kid my senior year at Whetstone, so I wasn't
well know by most of the class, but here's my news anyhow. I live in
beautiful Sebastopol, CA with my wife of 30 years, Jan, who is a retired
teacher. We have three daughters, Sophia, Elizabeth and Karina, who are
all out of the house and well on their way to successful lives. I am
known in the area as Mr. Music for my work teaching music to children in
the local elementary schools. I also lead a group of folks known as the
Love Choir in singing songs of love, peace and joy. (I'm still a proud
hippie). I perform with several bands and make my living as a musician.
I was recently name "Citizen of the Year" in Sebastopol, for my
community involvement.

Donn - This is great. I'm still in
contact with Steve Gale and he let me know about this web site. I
am doing well retired from Ohio Workers Comp in Risk Management. I
still live in Powell, Ohio and enjoy volunteer work at Highbanks
Metro Park, motorcycling, fishing, projects at my church, Grace
Brethren in Powell, and hanging out with friends. I am single,
formerly married, with a son and daughter in law who are expecting
my first grandchild. I see Chuck Mader and Terry Moore on a regular
basis and we are all looking forward to the next reunion. It's
great to read the updates from classmates.
I have one update for the roster info.
My address is correct, but my phone number begins with 740 instead of
614. Thanks a lot for keeping this site.

Donn- what a wonderful newsletter. so interesting to read
about everyone from WHS ...and so sorry to hear of the deaths and
illnesses. I still live in Tennessee near the Smokies but am and always
will be a Buckeye. There's a group of us OSU people of all ages who meet
during the games at a sports bar to have Buckeye parties while watching
the games> I am raising my step granddaughters (age 3 and 6) so, the
only TV I watch is Sponge Bob SquarePants . The computer is always tied
up with Webkinz( if you don't know what it is, you haven't lived..
ha-ha) My husband recently bought a 69 camaro racecar (streetpro) with
some ugly blower sticking out of the hood to compete with my 46 Chevy
so, we take 3 granddaughters to car shows and cruise-ins on weekends. I
guess if I am going to be a redneck I might as well learn about cars
(although I still don't know about NASCAR)...Mike (my husband) and I are
involved in Methodist church and AA allot.!! Whoever said retirement
was "laid-back"?" Donn, we sill have a boat on the Tennessee River. Jim
Allen--so glad you finally retired! I enjoyed teaching with you! |

I retired this past
June from the Columbus City Schools after teaching for 31 years. I am
currently tutoring adults on how to use their computers. I give them
one-on-one instruction in there home. I have been married to Pam Nance
for 35 years and we have two children. My daughter has given us 3
grandchildren ages 3, 4, and 5. My son just graduated from Kent State
this past December and will start seminary in September |

My update:
My wife, Susan, and I moved from New Jersey to Rockport, a small town on
the Texas coast north of Corpus Christi in 2006, after a reorg at Morgan
Stanley. Occasionally, I now work remotely as a supervisory analyst for
Lazard Capital Markets. My work PC sits in an office on the 60th floor
of 30 Rockfeller Center, a building I've never stepped foot in! Before
Wall Street, I worked as an editor at a financial newswire, a banking
industry trade paper, and daily newspapers in New Jersey and North
Carolina. I got my start taking photographs for the Whetstone H.S.
Camera Club and the Clintonville Booster, then switched to writing and
editing while attending East Carolina University.
I met Susan at a newspaper in Fayetteville, NC, and promptly married her
32 years ago. I like warm climates, but she was lured north by a job
offer from The New York Times, where she was an editor for many years.
Our daughter, 26-year-old Emma, must have my thin blood, for she lives
in Chandler, Arizona. She works at Intel's brand-new Fab 32 and just
earned her accreditation as a professional engineer.

Here's a short blurb about me:
I'm still married to Paula Droz, who graduated
from University School. Our daughter Heather is single and works
for the DOD in Washington. Our son Matt, also single, just earned
his MS in Library Sciences and is job-hunting. He enjoys
competitive ballroom dancing. No grandchildren.
I retired from teaching middle school English
in Reynoldsburg in 2005. Since then I've continued my home
improvement business and have written two children's books,
unpublished so far. The home improvement business has been more
successful; children's literature is a tough deal in any
economy...but I soldier on.
We are active in Simply Living and the Sierra
Club, where I am the Conservation Committee chair. We also belong
to Karl Road Christian Church.
I was recently in touch with Mike Bradford, a
Whetstone buddy who was a year behind us. He sent me pictures of
his lovely wife, two daughters, two airplanes, and large house. He
is the CEO of a casino at Lake Tahoe.
Though I have no airplanes, I'm grateful
for my health, more than enough worldly goods, and family and
friends. My email address is:
scmccaw@gmail.com.

I’m having a lot of fun
looking at everyone’s pictures.
Here is an update from me:
Deane and I have been married for 37 years. I have retired from
Columbus Public Schools (my last 4 years were teaching at Whetstone,
what a great way to end my career) but am currently teaching on-line
with ECOT. I was diagnosed as a carrier of the BRCA II gene but have
survived Stage III Ovarian cancer (12 years ago). My Oncologist was
Jeff Bell (John’s brother) who is an incredible human being and saved my
life. I decided to become pro-active and reduce my chances of having
breast cancer (86% to 2%) by having a double mastectomy last June.
Deane is a prostrate cancer survivor (5 years) and had a heart attached
last September (2008). He had to be shocked twice then taken to
Riverside Hospital where they discovered that his main artery was 100%
blocked and another artery was 70% blocked. He sustained no heart
damage and is once again playing handball three times a week. Funny, I
feel that we have been a healthy family, even after all of these
challenges.
I had the opportunity to attend one of the local WHS 67 social get
together’s last year that Dick McBride and Marsha Myers organized. It
was a lot of fun to finally get to really know some of my classmates and
reconnect with others. After looking through Donn’s website, I am
amazed at how many of us stayed around Columbus.
Even though I walked away from High School with some scars, you have to
admit that we had a lot of interesting people in our class.
I have kept in contact with Judy Angel, Linda Prushing and Christine
Arnold. I taught with Spiros Spantithos my first year of teaching with
CPS. Marcia Britton, Sharon & Ed Kirby, Nora and Jim Huber along with
Kathy Bahorek had children attending Whetstone during my four years
there. I’m now teaching with Jeff Smith in ECOT. Strange how our paths
keep crossing.
Blessings to all,
Paula |

Well I haven't heard from anyone from
Whetstone jn 40 years. I've talked with Gary Cook back when.
His folks and mine have been friends forever.
I went off to college and never looked back.
Been out west ever since. Had a great life and many
adventures. Just got married at the age of 50. Was
having lots of fun with auditions, but God and I weren't ready for a
wife and I'm not kidding. The auditions did go well. I
now have five children by my new wife of 10 years. None are
the fruits of my loins, but I love em and now have 6 grandkids.
I waited a long time, but it was worth it. I have the best
person in the world for my wife and I'm not kidding. I
searched for 45 years and finally have the woman of all our dreams.
Hope all of your life and dreams are coming true.
God bless and be happy.

Hope all is well with you. Thanks for the website. I

I'll call Nancy, get her e-mail and forward your website. She lives
around Troy. She and I worked at Henry Ford Hospital and roomed together
after graduation from training. Paula and I met in Ohio two years ago
and will meet again this summer I hope.
Winter is still here....Very cold.
I will put the website in my favorites...Judy Angel Luukkonen |

Everyone in the family is healthy and enjoying this
journey. I was originally hoping on retiring in a couple
years at 62, but thanks to unbridled Corporate greed, the
war in Iraq, and a faltering stock market, I may be working
into my 70s (LOL)! Such is life, but it's all good!!

My
wife and I now live at 6814 71st Street NE, Marysville,
Washington. If anyone should actually call, I would suggest my cell
phone (360-722-1217). I do have a policy of not answering calls
with blocked IDs, but I will try to answer any other calls. This
email address is also available. (mark_a_blake@hotmail.com)
As
sort of news, our daughter (Shannon) now also lives in Washington
between here and Seattle (she was doing post grad work in Canada in
2007) and has a pretty substantial job for the State of Washington.
Our son Andrew graduated from the University of Hawaii in December
as a tech theater major. He has his first job starting in a few
days, in his field (very rare for tech theater majors, even in good
economic times). Beth (my wife – her last is Gilroy) is starting
her next show April 1. (She is a cutter and a costume designer).
I continue to work for Intel in a software debugging group for
graphics, but work entirely from home. Part of the reason I was
allowed to do the transfer is that I am only about an hour from
Microsoft.
